Open Water Diver Certification

Open Water Diver

Course Cost: $405*

Your scuba adventure begins with the Open Water Diver certification course.  This course combines classroom theory with practical skill development in real world scuba environments.  The PADI OWD certification never expires and is accepted world-wide by dive shops and scuba charters.  OW Divers are certified to dive to a maximum depth of 60 feet. Students age 10-14 earn Junior OWD certifications and have restrictions based on age.

Requirements:

Students must be at least 10 years old, in good health, and comfortable in the water.  You don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer, but you will be required to swim 200 yards without touching sides or bottom of pool and tread/float for 10 minutes.

Equipment:

We provide basic scuba equipment consisting of BCD, Regulators, Tanks, Weights, and wetsuit (if size is available).  You will need to be fitted for and select “personal gear” (scuba quality Mask, Snorkel, Fins, and boots) which will be offered at a student discounted price.

  • Home Study at your own pace (approximately 6 hours)
  • Online / Touch format of Home Study *

Phase 2 consists of Confined Water Training where you’ll learn and practice 20 basic scuba skills in the safety of a freshwater pool over two days.  We have several locations to choose from based on availability and weather conditions.  Course fee covers the cost of these locations.  Another location of your choosing can be used, but must be paid for and coordinated by you.

Phase 3 consists of Open Water training where you’ll use your new scuba skills in a real world environment over two days.  Summer training location consists of one day at Lake Amistad and one day at Canyon Lake.  Winter training is conducted at Comal River.  The OW training can also be conducted during one of our Cozumel trips or other destinations.
